KEYS TO LIGHT -
MEDITATION FOR JUNE 2005
As I write this, London is baking in temperatures of about 30 º, after having the longest, coldest Spring for years. It is the day of the full moon, 22 nd June and yesterday was the Summer Solstice. A cool breeze has just started blowing and from the window of my upstairs study. I can look into the nature reserve behind our garden. (See pictures on the website.) The grass in there is almost shoulder high and blows in the breeze. Just this week it has started to turn from green to gold and looks like a sea of golden grasses. It is an enclosed space surrounded by houses and a park and a fortunate view to have in London .
June is the month of roses and this year we have had a magnificent display of them giving the inspiration for this month’s meditation. The rose is one of the symbols of the heart chakra and roses are given as a token of love. The spiritual teacher, White Eagle, reminds us that the more we can feel love and give it out to the whole world, “the more you are raising the whole vibration of the earth”. (“The Way of the Sun”, White Eagle Publishing Trust, 1982) As the rose pours forth its perfume, it inspires everyone with happiness and joy.
I once heard a story about a meditation on a rose. During World War 2, a prisoner in a concentration camp decided to try and feel more positive by meditating about a rose. Each day, he concentrated on the image of a rose. He imagined the perfume, the colour and the soft, silky petals. He felt surrounded by the golden light of its centre. After a few weeks, a group of prisoners surrounded him and asked him to share the rose soap he was using. They didn’t believe that the perfume was only from meditation.
ROSE MEDITATION
If you have a rose available, put a single rose in a vase to look at before you begin your meditation. Then, close your eyes and become aware of each breath. Follow the breath into your chest and then the heart chakra at the centre. Visualise there a perfect rose. Imagine the delicate perfume. Feel the soft silky petals, as though you are in the rose. The petals are opening in the sunlight. Every petal seems to shine and sparkle with light. At the centre of the rose, there shines a sparkling drop of dew. As the light shines on it, it radiates all the colours of the spectrum, as a diamond does. You feel as if you yourself are becoming light. Every atom and cell shines and sparkles with light. Send it to all the places and people you know who need healing or help.
