COLOUR HEALING, OCTOBER 2006
Our meditation this month develops from The Lake of Peace meditation of September. It also focuses on sitting by a peaceful, still lake. Sitting by still water brings about a feeling of peace and serenity. Breathing in colours brings their healing quality into your psyche. Colour is a very important aspect of life and we can use colours in our clothes and in our homes for décor and the artefacts we like to surround ourselves with. Colour can change our moods, can calm or excite the emotions. Bright vivid reds bring energy, but too much can cause aggression. Blues and greens are calming. Yellow is uplifting and mentally stimulating. Pink is calming and has been used to decorate prisons to keep the atmosphere tranquil. We can use crystals and coloured gemstones to bring the quality of their colour into our lives by wearing them as jewellery or using them as focal points in a room. If you find you are always attracted to the same colours or are too timid to wear bright colours, try adding colour to your wardrobe with a tee shirt or shirt, scarves, socks or ties. Feel the difference in your moods.

This meditation uses colour, visualisation and breathing to influence your health and the way you feel. With each colour given, concentrate on breathing the colour for a few minutes before moving on. The colours are based on the seven colours of the spectrum found in the rainbow.
Use your smooth, gentle breathing to centre yourself. Imagine yourself surrounded and filled by light, coming from the sun. You are sitting by a beautiful lake. The water is so smooth and still, you can see the surrounding scenery reflected in its surface, like a photograph. It is a warm evening and almost sunset. As you gaze at the surface of the water, the sun is low in the sky. The sky is a vivid rosy red, reflected in the water. As you breathe in, feel shades of rose red fill your lungs and your whole being, bringing renewed energy to you. Continue for a few breaths. Looking again at the lake, the sky reflected in it has become a brilliant orange. Breathe in the colour, feeling yourself filled with renewed enthusiasm. As the sun begins to set, you are aware of a final flash of vibrant yellow, with its powers of upliftment and cheerfulness. Gazing around at the lake, you are struck by the many beautiful shades of green, the colour of nature, the colour of harmony and adaptability. The sky is still a pleasing shade of sapphire blue, calming and tranquil to you. As you gaze at it, it deepens to indigo, the colour of intuition, of rest and quietness. Small stars begin to twinkle in the sky. Shades of amethyst, the colour of meditation, are also to be seen in the sky as it deepens towards night. You leave the shores of the lake and begin to return to your everyday world. Once again, become aware of your body, the room where you are sitting, you’re breathing. Rub your palms together, cup them over your closed eyes, feel the warmth. Gently massage your forehead, cheeks, jaw and chin, then open your eyes and stretch. Have a drink of water. You are ready again for every day things.
