MIDSUMMER MEDITATION, 2007
(June 2007)

June 21 st, the Summer Solstice, is considered by some to be a special day to attune to World Peace. It is a time of connecting to the world’s sacred sites of which there are many. Here in England, it is a special day for people to travel to the well-known ancient site of Stonehenge to watch the sunrise. But wherever you live, there is bound to be a special place associated with a tradition of healing and peace. Not far from where we live there is a sacred well, in a safe woodland area, where people meet for meditation to heal the earth. If you live near to a safe sacred space in nature where you could go to meditate, this is a good time to do so. Then you would feel warm summer sunshine and inhale the scent of plants that come to you on the soft breezes. If that is not possible, use your creative imagination and visualise yourself in a place outdoors, which you know has been made special over the generations through sacred use. Or it might be a place special to you that helps you to feel peaceful, serene and tranquil.
(This Peace meditation can be done any time, not only on Midsummer Day)
Begin your meditation by sitting quietly and tuning in to your breathing. If you are out of doors, take a few moments to look around you at the beauty of nature. If indoors, close your eyes and create your special place with your creative imagination, which is the beginning of clairvoyance. Visualise the sun shining brightly over you. (If you are outside, don’t look at the sun) Feel the rays of the sun envelope you like a pyramid of light. Breathe in the rays of light that surround you and feel yourself being filled with a sense of peace and tranquillity, a feeling of total relaxation. Remember a time in your life, perhaps a time in childhood, when you were carefree and totally happy and at peace. As you re-live this memory, feel yourself once again filled with that feeling of peace, joy and serenity. As you continue to visualise the sunlight filling you and surrounding you, visualise your heart chakra at the centre of your chest, your spiritual heart centre, begin to shine like a sun. Gradually the light grows bigger and bigger, and radiates out. It fills the place where you are sitting and then grows larger and larger, to fill your home and the people in it, your town or city, your workplace, your country and then the whole planet, sharing that sense of peace, serenity and tranquillity with all people.
Spend some time in this space of deep peace. Then, when you feel the meditation is complete, visualise the sunlight in your heart centre grow smaller and smaller, release all the visualisation and bring your awareness back to your breath, then become aware again of your physical body. Open your eyes and make sure you are grounded again. Have a drink of water, move about and return to your everyday activities.
