"Keys" Newsletter to Friends
- No.31 - Autumn 2008
We send our best wishes to our friends everywhere. KEYS is now well into its fifteenth year, having started in April 1993. The name derived from the initials of Kathleen’s Ealing Yoga School. When we look on our website and into our archives, it amazes us how much we have done over the years, as there are only the two of us to do it.
LATEST NEWS

Kathleen’s book is selling well. We sell a meditation oil blend based on eleven of the oils in the book. (Price £10 for 5 ml.) These oils all have individual spiritual qualities. Several people who don’t find meditation easy have reported beneficial effects from using the blend while meditating. You only need one drop on a tissue or 2 or 3 in an essential oil vaporiser. Kathleen used the oil being described, in a vaporiser, while writing her book. Several yoga teachers, life coaches and psychotherapists have also reported good results from using the meditations from the book. Actually, you don’t need to use the oil as well but it does enhance the healing benefits of the visualisation.
We now have another oil blend that we have used ourselves since the spring. It was inspired by an article that Kathleen read and is based on a traditional blend, said to have been used in Europe at the time of the Black Death in the 13th century. The story goes that a gang of thieves robbed the dead and dying victims of the plague but never caught it themselves. When the authorities finally arrested them, the king said he would let them go if they told him the secret of how they avoided the plague. They said they were perfumers, who used essential oils. At that time perfumes were blended from essential oils, as chemical perfumes were not invented until the nineteenth century. They mixed a blend of five oils into wine vinegar and rubbed it on their bodies, especially under their arms. The oils protected them against the infection. The blend became known as “thieves oil”, after the story. We have named our version “Heal and Prevent”. (Price £7 for 10 ml.) Suggested Uses of KEYS Heal and Prevent Oil:
1. Use 3 – 4 drops in an electric burner or aromatherapy burner to clear the air in a home or kitchen, especially when there are colds about. People comment on the pleasant fragrance. This will also deter mosquitoes and insects. You can also put 1 – 2 drops on tissues and scatter around a room when there are mosquitoes around, if you haven’t a burner handy.
2. Use 5 – 10 drops on hot and cold compresses for sprains and strains and aching joints.
3. Use 1 – 2 drops in 5 mls (1 tsp) of almond oil for a massage.
4. Put 20 drops in 200 mls of plain liquid soap base.
5. Put 5 – 10 drops in hot or cold water in a bowl to bathe sore or swollen feet.
6. Mix 9 drops in base cream as an insect/mosquito repellent and as an antiseptic.
7. Use in white vinegar or cider vinegar as a natural cleanser in the home, especially to deter ants on their runs in the summer.
Essential oils are distilled from healing herbs that have been in traditional use for centuries.

Our pure essential oil blends are specially dedicated using crystals and healing music.

MEDITATION
Our meditation this time is a variation of the well-known one on candle gazing.
Sit in your favourite comfortable meditation position. You can sit in front of a candle and look at it to begin with, or merely visualise a flame. Begin by breathing slowly and gently, noticing each breath as it comes and goes. Direct the breath into the heart chakra at the centre of the chest. Visualise there a still white flame. As you gaze at it with your inner vision, it seems to be more than one colour. It looks as if there are three colours intertwining – blue, for healing, yellow (gold) for spiritual wisdom and rose pink for divine love. The flame grows bigger until you feel as though it is surrounding you. You are in the flame. You can ‘bathe’ in each colour in turn. Concentrating on the blue flame, feel as though you are healed of aches and pains. Visualise anyone you know in need of healing surrounded by the blue healing flame. Now the flame turns to golden yellow and you are surrounded by the inspiration and creativity of spiritual wisdom. Put into the golden flame the thought of any creative project you are working on. The colour changes once more. You are bathed in soft rose pink, the colour of divine love. Use it to visualise any of your relationships. The three colours combine to create the violet flame of transformation. Bathe in the violet light and breathe in its colour and it dissolves any negative thoughts and feelings. Continue as long as you wish, then conclude your meditation by visualising the white flame once again. Breathe more deeply and dissolve the visualisation. Open your eyes when you are ready.
Meditation Group
This meets on a Thursday evening, once a month at 7.30 pm. The evening costs £10 and includes light refreshments. If you are an experienced meditator and are interested in joining us, please ring or email for information. The theme this year is “Going Deeper.” We will be working with some traditional and other meditations to help to reach a transcendental state. Dates for the next few months are October 9th, November 13th, December 11th and January 29th.
It is a good idea to keep a meditation notebook so that you can track your progress and note improvements over time.
WEEKLY YOGA CLASSES
TUESDAYS. This 1½ hour class meets at 7.30 pm.
WEDNESDAYS. We have 2 classes, each of 1½ hours, at 6:30 and 8:00 pm.
THURSDAYS. We have a 2 hour yoga and meditation class from 10:00 am. to 12:00 noon.
In all cases, numbers are limited to not more than nine students, so that they can have individual attention and support. We do not do drop in classes and payment is by the term or half term. We teach classical yoga, which includes proper breathing, yoga postures, relaxation and meditation. Kathleen specialise in the gentle approach to yoga asanas (postures), which can be achieved through breathing into the poses. This encourages people to work up to their full potential gradually and to achieve mastery in yoga. Please ring if you are interested in any of these classes.
THERAPIES
Kathleen has been a qualified massage practitioner and aromatherapist for over 20 years

We do gift vouchers for that special occasion or for birthdays, in a presentation card.
